埃克赛特大学教授Steve Gaskin博士为大家讲解英国博士申请技巧

英国的博士课程质量上乘,但是申请过程似乎充满挑战:如何写作一篇出色的研究计划?如何联系导师?如何申请奖学金?诸如此类的问题困扰着不少有志于在英国继续深造的中国学生。12月14日,英国大使馆文化教育处请到了英国研究发展领域的专家,为大家就申请博士的流程和技巧答疑解惑。
本次交流将包含以下方面:
- 对博士教育进行充分阐述,给学生提供准确的信息;
- 博士教育的优势,为什么选择进行博士深造;
- 解读学生与导师之间的关系;
- 怎样成为一个出色的博士生申请者?成功申请博士需要哪些条件?
- 具体的博士申请过程,以及奖学金信息
学生们将有充分的机会与英国专家进行交流。不论你感兴趣于哪种专业,也不论你对英国的博士教育了解多少,本次活动都将使你的申请之路获益匪浅。活动也会邀请专业留学申请机构的出席,以便学生就近咨询英国申请事宜。
关于主讲人:
Steve Gaskin博士是埃克赛特大学学生技巧部的主管。他所领导的学生发展团队,每年会组织超过12000学生参加的系列技能发展活动。Steve在埃克赛特大学建立了全校范围的研究生发展项目,迄今为止已经为超过5000名学生提供了相关培训,帮助他们更好的完成博士阶段的项目和教育。Steve拥有10余年的学生个人发展经验,并且在对研究生阶段学生的培训方面有特殊造诣。

PHD workshop led by Dr Steve Gaskin, Head of Student Skills, University of Exeter, UK

A workshop for students planning to undertake PGR study in the UK, covering research proposals, finding a supervisor, funding, etc. Led by an expert in researcher development, this workshop will enable students to better understand the PhD “product” and “process”.
The session will cover a range of issues to include:
? understanding what a PhD is, and is not, and managing your expectations
? exploring the reasons why students undertake PGR study
? defining the student-supervisor relationship
? identifying what makes a good PGR candidate
? Application process and funding
The workshop will be interactive and will provide students, interested in any subject, with the
opportunity to demystify the myths surrounding PGR study and ascertain whether they would
be a suitable candidate to undertake a PhD in the UK. There will also be the opportunity to
meet with the University’s approved Education Agents to identify sources of help and support
throughout the application procedure.
About the Facilitator
Dr Steve Gaskin is Head of Student Skills at the University of Exeter in the UK, a Top-10 UK
research-intensive university. Dr Gaskin currently manages a student development team
which engages over 12,000 students each year in skills development activities. Formerly
Director of Postgraduate Development at the same university, Steve established a universitywide development programme for researchers, which has seen over 5000 students benefit from enhanced training and development to help them complete their PhD projects. Steve is a member of Vitae, the UK’s overarching body supporting postgraduate development, and he is also a member of a governmental committee for Skills and Enterprise. Steve has over 10 years of experience in student development and has a particular knowledge of research students’ training aspirations and suitability for PhD study.
